Fees, Insurance and Office Policies
The information below explains my policies and procedures for insurance reimbursement and my session fee as a depression therapist .
Please note that each session is 45 minutes in length and the session fees listed below apply to the type of therapy/counseling that is reserved at the time the appointment is scheduled.
- Individual Therapy 45-minute Session $200.00 (adults 18 years of age and older)
- Couples Counseling 45-minute Session $300.00
- Family Therapy 45-minute Session $300.00 (two to three people)
Note: I am currently only offering individual therapy. I have suspended doing couples counseling and family therapy until further notice. Please call me if you would like a referral for couples counseling or family therapy. Thank you for your understanding.
If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please do so by phone by calling 408-315-0645 with at least 48 hours notice before your scheduled appointment time. This allows my office time to offer that hour to someone else. If you do not show for your appointment, or if you cancel or reschedule with less than 48 hours notice, you will be charged the regular fee for the type of therapy/counseling session that you reserved.
Fees are due at the beginning of each session. Credit card (Visa and MasterCard) and cash payments are accepted.
I’m not on any insurance panels, because if I was, they would force me to accept around $70 for a session, when I charge $180. While I might be able to survive on that in Ohio, I can’t in the Silicon Valley. Because insurance companies have a standardized, national, reimbursement rate, they pay the same in all areas of the country.
Additionally, insurance companies can deny coverage at any time, such as when they decide that a client is not in enough pain to need therapy. This means that the insurance company can stop paying me at will for any reason at any time. That’s not a practical business model and I insist on being the professional who determines if my client is in need.
I am an out-of-network provider for PPO insurance plans. This means that the client pays the full fee directly to me, and I provide a statement so that you may apply for reimbursement. Most plans pay back a percentage to you, depending on your level of coverage. Some plans reimburse the full fee for a set number of sessions.
If you have any questions about insurance, please call my office or you can talk with me during our time together.
